I'm entertained that its name is so close to the name of my boyfriend's cat, Diotima.
I hope they do a good job with this movie.

the great housing search... [Apr. 6th, 2007|09:14 pm]
[Current Location |Stewartstown, PA]
[ninajionaje? | cheerful]

has officially ended... well, on the Massachusetts side at least.

Brandon found (through craigslist) a Newton woman who wanted dog-sitting for 15 tiny Papillions (!!) a couple weekends a month in exchange for rent.

Thank you to everyone who offered to help, scoured their social networks, offered housing with ex-husbands of friends of friends of their mothers, etc.

Brandon's room in DC is still open to sublet!! Tell your friends!

Help, please [Mar. 31st, 2007|03:53 pm]
[muziki |WERS]

Dear people with connections in the metro boston area,

My boyfriend Brandon is looking to live in Massachussetts from mid-May to the end of August. He will be spending most of his time taking greek classes at Harvard Extension School, working, and hanging out with me and my family. All he needs is a bedroom, and even that could be shared. His budget is $350 per month or less; he would also be open to doing any kind of house/yard/repair work.

Do you know anyone, friends, family, spatulas, who has a room they would be willing to rent?

Thank you a very lot.

love,

Becca / CC

I got an email from my friend Franco Majok the other day.

"I do not know if you hear about my project. When I came from south Sudan, I decided to raise money and build school in my village. The First Lutheran Church in Lynn is helping, but I do need help from you if you can specially when you go back to school."

Dear fellow A-town people/my kinsmen the water voles/whom it may concern:

a)i'll be in MA from March 5th-11/12th-ish. I'm sad I don't see you any more. If you're around, we should hang out. Even if i've barely seen you since graduation, look me up. I do miss you, even if i'm horrible at communication.

b)In that vein, I'm thinking of going to Canada from the 10th-12th ish, with a friend from college. Her name is Ellen, aka Ellen the Blue, even though her hair is currently pink. She likes ska and robots. Anyone want to come with?

In closing, life here is good. My triangle is straightened out, and my schedule isn't that crammed, compared to last semester. Yay!

[ninajionaje? | happy]

whoo, i have not said anything here for a while.
to recap:
i'm at eastern university, (it's close to philadelphia) working on my anthropolgy major and french 'n psych minors, plus dabbling in ultimate and sign language.
currently taking: french literature since 1800, biblical hermenutics, theology, ethnography, and missions 100.

one of my goals for this semester is to keep/get back in touch with people. so if you appreciate long rambly letters, drop me a line.

hope you're all doing well.

i'm in a-town. until about jan 14, mostly. some road trips thrown in there, but i'll be around.

tomorrow: christmas shopping, working at crossroads from 12-8. (i was there today... made six trips to the post office while i had a nice adventure with shipping things to portugal.) call me if you're around and want to hang out.

i'm very glad to be home. but i have much sorting of physical and emotional baggage to do-- stuff that got pushed aside by the semester and is now piled up for me to deal with.

i'm off to move around the boxes in my room... it's become a storage area slash greenhouse in my absence.

i hope these aren't omens for how the week will go [Dec. 5th, 2005|12:45 pm]
[ninajionaje? | tired]

possible omen number one: i woke up this morning screaming.
kristi and i were going to go work on our pictures of galaxies, globular clusters, etc. at 8 am in the computer lab... but my alarm didn't go off. so at 7:40 she's standing at the side of my bed whispering, "good morning... good morning, cc... cc..." meanwhile, as i was sleeping, i was having a dream about a cult centered around this burgundy colored rug. one of the cult leaders was talking to me about how i'd overheard too many cult secrets, when he just started whispering my name, really creepily. i woke up with a fairly loud yelp.

possible omen number two: i had an attack drink.
after lunch, i was walking out of the dining commons, holding a cup, talking to a professor i go to church with and trying to put my gloves on at the same time. i covered my entire arm in cappuchino. i shrugged it off and started heading back to my dorm.. on the way there i saw Pfiz. i decided to walk up behind her without saying anything. it almost worked, except i tripped a little and covered HER elbow in cappuchino.

yikes.

[muziki |Jars of Clay, "Overjoyed"]

books i'm bringing to read on the train to Utica (my grandparents live there):

The Future of SPACETIME

The Elegant Universe: Superstrings, Hidden Dimensions, and the Quest for the Ultimate Theory

Three Roads to Quantum Gravity

Superstrings: a theory of everything?

Despite the opinions of others ::coughcoughstephcough:: I must say cosmology is one of the best classes i've taken so far, at least in terms of making me want to read books i'd never have glanced at before.

And who knows, maybe "three roads to quantum gravity" will scare off any sketchy train people.

ah, this is so classic me.
used book sale today in mcginnis-- bought like six childrens books, including two copies of the little prince and one of catwings. used up all my quarters (8) that were in my wallet.

get back from class about 15 minutes ago and realize i have only two quarters in my room and i desperately need to do laundry.

"She felt terribly sorry for people who suffered from constipation, and she knew that there were many who did. There were probably enough of them to form a political party-- with a chance of government perhaps-- but what would such a party do if it was in power? Nothing, she imagined. It would try to pass legislation, but would fail."

Alexander McCall Smith, "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency."

Such a great book... oh man. Female holmesian detective from Botswana, how much better can a mystery get?

on a completely different note, i'm going to make my first foray into contradancing this saturday. (Eastern people, you should come too. serious.) Should be an interesting time, as i'm not that coordinated even when i know what i'm doing, and i'll have just played an hour or two of ultimate.

[muziki |Five O'Clock Shadow-- Few and Far Between]

Talking to my roommate and calling my family made my day so much better. I really like having a roommate that i'm good friends with... things should be good dorm-life-wise this year.

There are little girls, friends of the family, staying in my room tonight and i told them where to find my toys and picture books. The youngest one is sleeping with a pile of my stuffed animals all around her, and tomorrow she might ride my bike. I'm excited they moved to my town... going home and visiting them will be fun.
